We asked Climate Works Ltd to look at 6 sites in the Parish where the landowner had expressed an interest in renewable energy generation.
The six sites were then narrowed down to two which looked to have the greatest potential for generating electricity on a significant scale. Bath & West Community Energy Company will then be producing detailed technical studies to give, amongst other things:
- an indication of how much energy could be produced
- the likely costs
- the possible financial and legal structures
- the potential benefits to the whole community.
One site is being looked at for solar power, the other for wind.
The study aims to look at the different options and compare them objectively. It will be a well researched report that will show just what might be the best schemes to take forward for Marshfield with its particular characteristics of being a conservation village in an area of outstanding national beauty. Most importantly however it gives an opportunity to find out what people want to take forward.
We would like to make it very clear that there is absolutely no intention of taking forward any scheme without full community consultation and consensus.
Given the time constraints it was not possible to do a detailed study of all the possible sites in the Parish and all the possible types of energy generation. Those who have an interest in other types of technology are invited to help contribute to a full debate on the options we could consider if there are sufficient interest and resources available.
Equally, those who feel there are alternatives to generating our own power, for instance buying into other schemes or bulk purchasing energy, are invited to contribute to the debate. Our key constraint on incorporating these elements into this particular project is time and resource: any assistance you can give will be very much appreciated.
